general questions

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice that uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and suggestions to help you make positive changes in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviours. It’s a collaborative process where you remain in control and aware throughout the session.

Yes, hypnosis is a natural and safe state of focused attention. You are always in control during hypnosis and cannot be made to do anything against your will.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. It works by challenging unhelpful beliefs and replacing them with constructive, realistic ones. I often combine CBT with hypnotherapy to make it even more effective for things like anxiety, limiting beliefs, and performance challenges.

Negative self-hypnosis happens when you unintentionally reinforce unhelpful beliefs or behaviours through repeated negative self-talk or internalised thoughts. For example, telling yourself, “I always fail at this,” can act as a suggestion that your mind starts to believe and follow. It’s like creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. My work can help you identify and replace these unhelpful patterns with positive, constructive thoughts and suggestions to reframe your mindset.

My approach is all about helping you navigate your thoughts and embrace your full potential. We’ll work together to untangle limiting beliefs, overcome fears, and align your responses with your goals. It’s a warm, collaborative process that’s tailored to you.

Absolutely. Hypnosis is more about focused attention than complete relaxation. I’ll guide you in a way that works best for you to make sure you feel comfortable and effective during the session. With practice, you will be surprised how easily you can enter hypnosis.

Rather than using the term “trance,” we tend to talk about a hypnotic mindset. This is a state where your attention becomes focused and receptive to suggestions. It’s a natural and relaxed state of mind—similar to getting lost in a daydream or being fully absorbed in an activity you enjoy.

About sessions

Not necessarily. While hypnosis is a big part of what I do, some weeks we might use cognitive behavioural approaches or other techniques to explore different aspects of your goals. Every session is tailored to your individual needs and progress. Our sessions also involve me getting to understand your issues and identifying the language that will best inspire change, so that each session of hypnosis is uniquely tailored to helping you get the most out of our work together.

Each session starts with a friendly chat about your goals and concerns. Then I’ll guide you into a state of relaxation where we’ll work on reframing thoughts, overcoming obstacles, and aligning with what you want to achieve.

Most clients find that their goals are achieved within four to six sessions, depending on the nature of the issue. Initially, I recommend weekly sessions to create momentum and build progress. However, as you integrate what we’ve worked on into your daily life, you might find that spacing sessions further apart works better for you.

At the start, I’ll let you know how many sessions I think will be helpful, but it’s a flexible process, and we can adjust as we go if more are needed. I’ll also work around any constraints in your life to help you achieve your goals, keeping you in the loop every step of the way. Some clients also choose to return for occasional refreshers or ongoing support as their needs evolve.

Sometimes, yes. I might suggest simple homework to build on what we’ve done in our sessions. This could include listening to recordings of hypnosis scripts, journaling, or practicing new strategies we’ve discussed. I recommend practicing with each recording for at least two weeks to fully absorb its positive messages. These small, manageable steps help solidify positive changes and keep you moving forward toward your goals.

Absolutely! I offer a free consultation session to help us get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit. If you decide to work with me, we’ll have an initial consultation session to dive deeper into your concerns and define clear goals for our work together. During this session, I’ll indicate the number of sessions I anticipate will be needed, and we’ll agree on a pricing plan that works for you.

Yes! Many clients like to schedule check-ins a few times a year to maintain progress and stay on track with their goals. Whether you’re working through something new or just want a refresher, I’m always here to help

focus areas

Goal-oriented therapy focuses on identifying clear, actionable outcomes you want to achieve through our work together. In our sessions, we’ll collaborate to break down your goals into manageable steps and address any obstacles holding you back. Hypnotherapy can support this process by helping you build the mindset and habits necessary to achieve your desired results. Whether your goals are related to personal growth, professional success, or overcoming specific challenges, we’ll create a tailored plan to help you succeed.

Hypnotherapy supports both behavioural and cognitive habit change by addressing the underlying patterns that drive unwanted habits. On the behavioural side, we can work on interrupting automatic responses and replacing them with healthier, more positive actions. Cognitively, hypnotherapy helps uncover and shift the beliefs and thought patterns that reinforce the habit, making it easier for you to break free and adopt new, empowering routines. Together, we’ll tailor strategies to create lasting change in your life.

Performance anxiety, often called “stage fright,” is the intense fear or nervousness that can arise before or during activities where you’re being evaluated, such as public speaking, auditions, or presentations. Hypnotherapy is highly effective in addressing this by uncovering and reframing the fears or beliefs that trigger anxiety, replacing them with empowering thoughts and strategies. Through relaxation techniques, visualization, and mindset shifts, hypnotherapy helps you build confidence, stay focused, and perform at your best. You can read more on my blog post what do we mean when we say performance anxiety? or on an article I wrote at Hypnotherapy Directory.

We’ll work together to explore the root of these fears and use hypnotherapy to shift your thought patterns. The goal is to empower you to move forward without being held back by self-doubt or worrying about what others think.

Yes, it’s one of the things I specialise in. Hypnotherapy is great for breaking free from limiting beliefs and releasing shame. Together, we’ll work to replace those patterns with self-acceptance and confidence.
